Rapid growth in a start-up business in Australia

Built a start-up from scratch to revenues of AU$1.5 million in three years.

I emigrated to Australia to start a business providing industrial consultancy services and grew it from scratch to revenues of 1.5m Australian dollars in three years.

The sales and marketing process developed lead to long term project wins with major Australian manufacturing companies including Unifoods, Lion Nathan, Amcor and Burns Philp. This success meant they had to develop a recruitment, induction and training process that worked. Interestingly the process that enabled them to find and recruit the best possible people had by far the biggest impact on the company’s overall growth.

Injecting growth into a business that has plateaued

Doubled revenues from £1.5 to £3m in 18 months, in a business where growth had stalled.

When I returned from Australia to take over responsibility for the UK arm of Hagen & Co, growth had stalled at revenues of £1.5m. The biggest client in the UK, Heinz, had just decided that they could do what we did themselves, releasing 50% of the UK team.

We quickly introduced a focused lead generation and sales strategy, followed by a recruitment and training plan. New long term clients were added including Guinness, Gallaher, Rexam, Courtaulds and Associated British Foods.

Together these strategies lead to a doubling of sales to £3m in just 18 months.

Acquisition, re-branding and rapid growth

Driving 200% growth in revenues in three years after a complete re-brand

I took on a role to lead a newly formed group which was created by the acquisition of two companies, one in facilities management, the other in electronic security.

We completely re-branded both businesses, to form Certainty Group, within 120 days of the completion of the transactions.

Building on the new brand identity of Certainty Facilities and through a focused sales and marketing strategy, we grew revenues by 200% from £3m in 2003 to £9m in 2006.

Revenue growth from £30m to £60m in two years

Europa Support Services – Corporate & Retail Sector

In a highly competitive market as Managing Director, I drove the revenues of the B2B facilities management company from £30 million to £60 million in two years. Growth was achieved through a simple, focused business development strategy:

  • Focusing on prospective clients that valued quality
  • Understanding precisely what they wanted and needed
  • Building compelling solutions that met these needs
